Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers the unforgettable story of a woman whose new life has just begun—but may end in murder…

Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayou—and a scorching encounter with a stranger, only to discover he’s Lucian de Vincent… her new employer. The de Vincent brothers share a massive fortune and a dark reputation. Julia cares for their troubled sister, but a menacing presence in the mansion—and the ever-present temptation of Lucian—prove dangerously distracting.

Lucian’s grandmother claimed de Vincent men fall in love once—and hard. Apparently, it’s Lucian’s turn. Julia’s compassionate care of his twin makes Lucian want to lay himself bare. But some secrets are better for Julia not to know.

The recent “suicide” of Lucian’s father is the latest in a string of deaths on the estate. Someone is eliminating the de Vincents. And the best way to get to Lucian may be through Julia…

Mary’s 5 Star Review

This was one of the best stories I’ve ever immersed myself in. I had no idea what I was in store for when I opened this book, but par for course Jennifer delivered a powerful, addictive, and fascinating read. Lucian de Vincent had me from the moment he stepped onto the pages. His character was dark, brooding, mysterious, and captivating. The powerful and intensely suspenseful romance soared to the top of my top favorite reads.

Julia is starting fresh and has been hired as a private nurse by the de Vincent brothers. Her job is to care for their long lost sister who disappeared years ago. She was presumed dead, but now is in a catatonic state. She moves into the mysterious, and de Vincent mansion, where it is rumored that a curse and haunting plagues the inhabitants. Lucian one of the elusive brothers seeks her out before her arrival and they share a moment of passion which makes her arrival problematic. She is there for his sister, but the more she sees him the more she realizes that one encounter won’t be enough to satisfy them. His constant perusal of her makes caring for his sister difficult, but the more she learns about the family the more she feels for him. They both realize that there is more to Lucian’s sisters reappearance, and as they uncover the clues they find that the de Vincent secrets are ones that can never leave the mansion they have been buried in for so long.

Julia and Lucian on the outside don’t add up, both from very different worlds with not much in common. Their need and passion for one another is beautiful, and their whit is amusing. It is the classic story of the woman playing hard to get, and the man not taking no for the answer. Julia has every right to deny his advances as she is employed by his family. It wouldn’t be in anyone’s best interest, yet some thing are uncontrollable and when they get together you will feel it all the way through to your toes.

After reading this book, I was floored. It stayed with me for days, and I was so enamored with the characters, and even more with the authors illustrious world she created. She writes with the reader in mind and feels. It’s why I love her, and love reading her books. They are an amazing experience.

Get this one sooner then later. I highly recommend it. Trust me it doesn’t get any better then a de Vincent.
