Synopsis

My name is Cassidy Porter…

My father, Paul Isaac Porter, was executed twenty years ago for the brutal murder of twelve innocent girls.

Though I was only eight-years-old at the time, I am aware – every day of my life – that I am his child, his only son.

To protect the world from the poison in my veins, I live a quiet life, off the grid, away from humanity.

I promised myself, and my mother, not to infect innocent lives with the darkness that swirls within me, waiting to make itself known.

It’s a promise I would have kept…if Brynn Cadogan hadn’t stumbled into my life.

Now I exist between heaven and hell: falling for a woman who wants to love me, while all along reminding myself that I must remain…

Unloved.

Mary’s 5 Star Review

This book really hit home, and not because I could relate to any of the book’s events, but because even if I couldn’t there is a world full of people who can. This book felt like a dark night, and its characters came out of the dark straight into the sunrise. It was beautiful, moving, and simply an uplifting story.

Brynn is looking for closure on a chapter of her life that started wonderful, but ended horrifically. She’s isolated for the better part of two years when a simple sign from the past leads her to the mountain of Katahdin. There she begins a journey to the top, but is thwarted when she is viciously attacked. Scared, and afraid she is rescued by a man who says his name is Cassidy. He quickly becomes her angel when he takes her to his home hidden at the base of the mountain. There he helps her heal physically, and emotionally. Her savior has some demons of his own, and has been trying to survive his entire life under being the son of a serial killer. Everything about Cassidy is pure, and Brynn believes that they both can comfort each other in the ways that no one else can. As they spend their days together, they start a friendship that evolves into something so much more. The one thing that threatens to destroy their happiness is the real world. Brynn has a life, and Cassidy can never be a part of it because who he is. It’s tragic, and beautiful all at the same.

Cassidy is a old soul. I felt for him the entire time. Wanting to pull him out of the book and tell him he isn’t his father. Brynn being in the dark had so much to offer him. He may have rescued her from harm, but she showed him that he was deserving of love.

The book isn’t about their relationship, but also things they never even knew about themselves. Everything that unfolded towards the end of the book had my jaw hanging open. I loved being surprised in books, and this was so worth the heartache that came before it.

If you have ever read any of Katy’s books, then you will surely want to dive into this one sooner, then later. She has a special way of weaving a story that somehow stays in your heart for a long time. Unloved was anything, but and exactly the opposite. I LOVED it from the very first word to the last.
