A broken woman . . .

Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Feeling nothing at all is far better than being hurt again. She guards her wounded heart behind a hard exterior, and carries within her a deep mistrust of men who, in her experience, have only ever used and taken.

A man in need of help . . .

Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there’s an undeniable goodness about him. And even though she knows the cost, Crystal finds herself drawn to Gabriel. His quiet strength is wearing down her defenses and his gentle patience is causing her to question everything she thought she knew.

Only love can mend a shattered heart . . .

Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world that had stolen everything from them would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts.

 Julie’s 5 Star Review

There are books that you read and enjoy. You smile along with the characters, you like them, you cheer for them, and you feel happy when they get their happy ending. Then there are books like the one I just finished where the characters live in you. You feel their pain with stabs to your own chest, their happiness is yours. When the words on the pages say that the character has goosebumps but you didn’t need those words because the proof is on your own skin. You cry, you laugh and you FEEL, all the way through the book. There’s a 5 star read and then there’s a book that you know 5 stars will never do justice because that book will forever be part of you.

The way that Mia Sheridan finds such beautiful love stories from the most dire and depressing situations is unreal. The way she is able to write and provide so much depth into the pain of the characters is amazing. You can’t help but feel it, what other choice do you have? The other miracle of her writing is that there is a lot of ugliness to the world the characters live in and the experiences they have, yet as a reader you walking away feeling nothing but how absolutely beautiful life is.

I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll be brief in my description of the book itself. Most of all you is the story of Eloise and Gabriel, two very damaged individuals who see something in each other that leads them to connect.

“The force of our connection shocked me, as if he had reached out and touched me in some way I didn’t understand, and had certainly never experienced before. His gaze wouldn’t release me. He knew I’d gone somewhere else in my mind. He knew. That desperate feeling in my belly moved up to my chest, into my throat, and I gasped out loud, finally breaking eye contact.”

They lead different lives, their pain comes from different sources, and their lives could easily go different directions that never led them to cross paths again. But they connect, and then they both choose to explore that connection. I hope you’ll read the book to see how things play out for them. I know you won’t regret it.

“Look! The flowers are just blooming. They’re beautiful, aren’t they? Do you see them? Look with your heart. Do you? Lady Eloise of the Daffodil Fields”
