His name was Ozzie.

He was the college hockey star every girl wanted a piece of and who every guy wanted to be.

But I didn’t know he existed. Not until the editor of the school paper agreed to give me a position in exchange for writing an article about him and his private life. I want the position. More than anything. It’s been part of my plan for as long as I can remember. But associating with jocks isn’t something I’m comfortable with given how unpopular and awkward I was in high school. I can’t let that stand in my way, though. I’m too stubborn for that.

I devise a plan to meet him and it works better than I thought it would. I don’t tell him what I’m up to, and by the time I start to realize what all the fuss is about, it’s too late. My lie threatens to expose his darkest secrets and also break my heart.

Christina’s 3 Star Review

Charlotte (Charlie), is a college freshman dying to score a position on the newspaper staff. An aspiring journalist with over the top tenacity isn’t willing to take the editor of the paper’s excuse that he doesn’t allow underclassmen. But when Charlie is offered a position on the condition she can produce the big exclusive nobody else can produce, she jumps at the chance. But when she meets the guy she’s supposed to dish the dirt on, she realizes that telling his story goes against every moral bone in her body. It doesn’t help that she starts dating him and falls for him…fast.

Ozzie is a reclusive hockey player with skeletons in his closet. He was benched for the playoffs where the team ultimately lost, losses blamed on Ozzie’s absence. Everyone wants to know why but those in the know are about as tight-lipped as they come. When Ozzie meets Charlie he is comfortable with her, trusts her, but what happens when Ozzie finds out that she may have been gathering info on him the entire time?

Pucker Up is your standard New Adult novel with plenty of angst. I liked the characters; between Charlie’s persistence and Ozzie’s mysterious past they’re interesting and really bring the story together. The storyline flows well, but the predictability and over-the-top angst make it a three star read. There is just a bit too much going on, to be honest, where Charlie is concerned. The book is told in the first person from Charlie’s POV. If you like angst, this book is surely for you! (And hockey, and New Adult…)
