From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes the addictive contemporary tale of a teen rock star in need of an image makeover and the teen girl hired to be his fake girlfriend.

Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley’s team decides it’s time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he’s settled down.

Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of “normal.” Under ordinary circumstances she’d never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn’t have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley’s team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley’s a shallow, self-centered jerk? It’s not like they’re going to fall for each other in real life…right?

Mary’s 4.5 Star Review

Erin Watt releasing a YA? A standalone? About a rockstar? I think I may just combust!!! This writing duo has made my year with the Royal’s series. Books like theirs are why I fell in love with reading, and when I started reading When It’s Real I had the same feelings of contentment as with their other books. It was everything I love about YA, and unlike other books in this sub genre, it wasn’t super angsty, and I have to confess I am not a fan of the drama llama. So this book was pretty much it for me.

Oakley Ford is a super famous teen celebrity, and Vaughn is the seventeen-year-old girl who has just been hired to clean up his image. She’s the answer to all his problems no matter how much he dislikes the thought of having a fake relationship. Vaughn is desperate for the money, and isn’t thrilled with having to pretend to be Oakley’s anything. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and she has a perfectly good reason for doing it. They have a rocky start, actually a pretty bumpy one, but once they truly get to know one another; they both realize that this fake relationship may be the best thing that could have ever happened to them.

Oakley is your typical spoiled, and arrogant celebrity. He has a whole team of people around him, controlling his every decision. He wants to be taken seriously, and Vaughn is just a hurdle he needs to get over. He’s not a bad guy, but his life isn’t normal, and he’s young, and his mistakes are just those lessons he needs to have to learn what the actual world is like. Vaughn lives in the real world and shows him it’s ok not to be perfect, and to be who you are. She isn’t ashamed of who she is, and her family is one of the only things that is important to her. Oakley’s complete opposite in every way imaginable.

This story will suck you in beginning with the first page. If you love Erin Watt like me, you will be more than happy with this book. My only complaint is that this is a standalone, because I want more. These characters became important to me. I want more from them. So, yes, read this book, and do it now. You will not be disappointed.
