Evie Jamieson, a former wild child, is not only a headstrong, smart-mouthed trouble magnet, she is also a lead singer with a plan. That plan involves relocating her band, including her two best friends guitarist Henry and band manager Mac, to Sydney to kick off their dreams of hitting the big time.

Jared Valentine is the older brother of Evie’s best friend Mac and also the man determined to make Evie his.

They strike up a long distance friendship which suits Evie because she’s determined to avoid the distraction of love, not only because it doesn’t fit in with her plan but because twice in the past it has left her for dead. Moving to Sydney however, has put her directly in Jared’s path and he has decided it’s the perfect opportunity to make his play.

Unfortunately Jared, co-owner in a business that ‘consults’ in dangerous hostage and kidnapping situations, makes an enemy who’s determined to enact revenge. When this enemy puts Evie in his sights, Jared not only has a fight on his hands to make her his own, but also to keep her alive.

Is accepting the love he’s so desperate to give worth the risk to both her heart…and her life?

Jennifer’s 4 Star Review

Female rock star, falling for your best friends brother (who has a tattoo)…what could be better than that in a Contemporary Romance! Well there’s more! What sets Give Me Love apart, is that the author, Kate McCarthy, adds an element of suspense to the storyline that keeps you hooked and not wanting to put this book down.

Give Me Love is the story of Evie, the Australian lead singer of the rock band Jamieson, who has a major crush on Jared, her best friend Mac’s older brother.

“Jared is Mac’s older brother by three years. Out of her three brothers, Jared is the one she is closest to, and of the three, he is the only one I look at and feel like time has stopped.”

Not only is he her best friends older brother, but Evie’s brother Coby also owns a business with Jared and Travis (Mac’s other brother), dealing in hostage negotiations, kidnapping and ransom. There is no keeping them apart.

Evie has had very bad luck with men like Jared in the past. Because of this she tends to gravitate towards men that are completely opposite of Jared, or as her friends like to refer to them as the “geek parade”. This will not stop Jared from pursuing her though. They live in separate parts of Australia at first, Evie in Melbourne and Jared in Sydney, so they start off as friends and text back and forth for months. Eventually, Evie and Mac feel that the band will get more exposure in Sydney, so they decide to move. When Evie and Jared see each other for the first time in months, they steam up the pages with their reunion.

“…his tongue came out to trace hot, lazy circles on my my skin, slowly and maddeningly making his way up to my ear. I felt my knees buckle, and he shifted towards me until his body pressed me into the wall.

“Fuck,” I heard him utter before his lips came down on mine. He swallowed the moan climbing up my throat, his tongue flooding my mouth. One hand grasped the back of my neck, reaching up to thread his fingers through my hair. The other hand tugged at my leg until he had it wrapped around him, ensuring I was pressed against him hard. A warm, possessive groan rumbled from his chest and set a slow burn through my body.”

Thankfully there are many sizzling moments like this in the book 😉 The first half of the story concentrates on their move to Sydney and the band trying to get more exposure. Problems arise though when Coby, Jared and Travis get involved in a hostage negotiation gone awry. A man is shot and killed by Jared, and the deceased’s brother, Jimmy Farrell, is now after Evie looking for payback. It’s now Jared’s job to protect Evie from this threat, but it becomes increasingly difficult when Jamieson is signed to a record deal and invited to tour with Australia’s hottest band, Sins of Descent. Jared and Evie have many ups and downs throughout the way, and there are moments of suspense, tension and brushes with death. I won’t spoil it anymore, but it’s definitely a captivating ride.

What also sets this book apart, is that about 80%of the way through the book, there is one chapter that is told entirely from Mac’s perspective. You don’t typically see this in a book, but I actually really liked it. It made me like Mac even more, and gets you into the head of Jimmy Farrell and why he is so obsessed with Evie.

I really hope that the author continues on with this series. There are so many characters and potential story lines to be told. Especially so, in the chapter that is told from Mac’s perspective, where she teases us with a potential relationship with Mac and a certain member of Jamieson. I’m crossing my fingers that this will be her next book! An excellent first novel by Kate McCarthy and a must read for any Adult Contemporary Romance fan!

Excerpt

I accelerated quickly through the quiet streets, and the phone I’d placed on the passenger seat started to ring again. I risked a glance as I drove, fearing Jimmy was calling again and jolted at Jared’s name on the display. Christ. There was nothing I needed more than to hear the rumble of his voice wash soothingly across my skin. I ignored the call, instead turning up the volume of the CD in the car. The loud techno beat screamed enough distraction, providing some measure of relief from the thoughts running through my mind. The phone rang again and once again, I ignored it. It eventually beeped a voicemail, and when I reached a set of red lights, I turned down the music and put the message on speaker. When the panic and the pain in Jared’s voice came through the speaker, I wanted to close my eyes as it washed over me.

“Baby, fuck. I’ve got frantic messages from Henry and Coby. What the fuck do you think you’re doing? Frank has your location on GPS, so wherever you think you’re going, Travis and I are right behind you. Just turn around and go home. Turn the fucking car around damn you and go home. We need to know you’re safe. Ring me, baby, please? Don’t do this. Please don’t… I…fuck.”

The crack in his voice on his last words had me resting my head on the steering wheel, and when I eventually looked up, the light had turned green.
